Mizithres Viewpoint – Complete Visitor Guide

A complete guide to visiting the Mizithres sea stacks at Keri, Zakynthos — how to get there, where to park, the best viewpoints, sunset tips, and what to bring.

18 August 2026

Few places in Zakynthos stop you in your tracks quite like the Mizithres. These two towering white-rock sea stacks rise straight out of the deep blue Ionian Sea off the southern coast of the island, just below the village of Keri. Whether you arrive for the golden-hour panorama, a late-afternoon coffee at the viewpoint café, or simply to tick off one of the most photographed places to visit in Zakynthos, the Mizithres deliver something memorable every single time.

Where Are the Mizithres?

The Mizithres are two large white limestone rock formations sitting in the sea just off the southern tip of Zakynthos, beneath the village of Keri. They are the eroded remains of what was once part of the mainland cliffs, and today they stand as one of the island's most recognisable natural landmarks. The viewpoint that looks out over the Mizithres sits on the clifftop above the sea, roughly a 20-minute drive south of Zakynthos Town.

How to Get to Mizithres

The Mizithres viewpoint is located near the village of Keri on the southern coast of Zakynthos. The easiest and most flexible way to reach it is by renting a car in Zakynthos — public transport on the island is limited.

Driving to Keri and the Mizithres Viewpoint

From Zakynthos Town, head south following signs toward Keri or Laganas. The road takes you through the interior of the island and down toward the southern coast. The drive is straightforward on paved roads, and the final approach to the viewpoint area passes through the small village of Keri. If you are staying in Laganas, the drive to Keri is even shorter — just a few minutes along the coastal road. From Tsilivi or other northern resorts, allow roughly 30–40 minutes of driving to reach the Keri area.

Where to Park

There is a parking area near the Keri viewpoint. During the busy summer months, especially around sunset, the parking area can fill up — so arriving a little earlier than you think you need is a good idea. From the parking area, the walk to the main viewpoint is short and along level ground.

Best Viewpoints

The main viewpoint platform looks directly out over the Mizithres and the open sea. On a clear day you can see the full height of both rock stacks and the deep turquoise water between them and the cliffs. There is a café perched right at the clifftop edge — one of the most dramatically positioned cafés on the island — where you can sit with a drink and take in the panorama. The terrace offers an unobstructed view of the Mizithres and is a popular spot for sunset.

Best Time to Visit

The Mizithres viewpoint is beautiful at any time of day, but the experience changes dramatically with the light. Mornings tend to be quieter and cooler, with the sun behind you as you look south. Late afternoon and the hours before sunset are the most popular — and for good reason. As the sun drops toward the horizon behind the sea stacks, the white limestone of the Mizithres glows warm gold and orange, and the sea reflects the changing sky. It is one of the best sunset spots in Zakynthos.

If you plan to visit for sunset, arrive at least 30–45 minutes before the published sunset time to find parking and settle in. The café terrace is a favourite spot, but the open viewpoint platform is equally good. Bring a light layer — the clifftop can be breezy even on warm days.

What to Bring

  • •A camera or phone with plenty of storage — you will take more photos than you expect
  • •Comfortable walking shoes for the clifftop paths
  • •A light jacket or layer for the evening breeze on the clifftop
  • •Water, especially if you are visiting in the heat of the day
  • •Cash for the café if you plan to stay for a drink or snack

Safety and Practical Tips

The viewpoint area is on a clifftop, so take care near the edges, especially if visiting with children. The barriers and paths are generally well-maintained, but the cliff edge itself is natural and unfenced in places — stick to the established paths and viewing platforms. If visiting during peak summer, early morning or late afternoon is more comfortable than the hottest part of the day, and the light is better for photography.

Nearby Places and Exploring by Car

The Keri area has more to offer beyond the Mizithres viewpoint. The village itself is small but has a handful of tavernas and cafés, and Keri Beach (Keri Lake) is a small pebble beach below the village. Marathonisi — the turtle-shaped islet off the coast of Laganas Bay — is reachable by boat tours that depart from the nearby area. The drive back north through the interior of the island passes through olive groves and small villages worth a quick stop, and the southern coast is one of the quieter, less-developed parts of Zakynthos.
